New Maruti Swift: Evolution of excellence

Reigning for six years in the premium compact car segment, Maruti Swift is all geared up to reincarnate in a new, chic avatar. With approximately 6 lakh units rolling, Maruti Swift takes pride in 10000 cars still being sold monthly. The old Swift beholds such a success saga that the New Swift is unveiling with an impressive 50000 units booked in advance. Built on an all new platform, the New Swift is not born of compulsion of dissipating sales, but is an attempt to better the best. Retaining the signature traits, Maruti Suzuki has in fact improvised the snags marring the excellence of the cult model.

Treasuring the same silhouette and classy structure the New swift has only evolved in design and in a fleeting glance could easily deceive you for its predecessor. Yet a sharp acumen can realize the dissemblance soon. The New swift appears savvier with elegant and bigger headlamps, swept back into the bonnet and well complemented with new peeled-back tail lights, imparting a young and sportier touch. The bold and stylish design now has a more distinctive presence with 40mm increase in length, 20mm increase in wheel base and 5mm increase in width. The optimized length and wheel base contributes to a more spacious interior, an additional 25 mm in knee room and better accommodating leg space for the rear seat passenger.

Complementing the spacious cabin are refurbished body hugging seats, crafted in a special concave contour to create a benchmark in ultimate comfort. The redesigned plush interiors are loaded with sublime features blending pizzazz with class. The artfully revived car swanks newly-designed instrument panel with user friendly multi-information display. The dashboard showcases display for time and outside temperature and also accommodates Speedo and tacho dial with fuel efficiency data. Packed with a state-of-the-art Panasonic audio system with surround effect, supported by four speakers and two tweeters, the New Swift promises your drive to be in tune with your favourite tunes.

The evolution continues under the hood as well, as the New Swift treasures the sharp 1.3 litre diesel engine, though the 1.2 k series petrol engine gets variable value timing on the intake valve. The petrol variant now boasts of a more powerful engine contributing to increased efficiency and extended fuel economy. The hydraulic engine mount caters to lessening of NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) promising to make your drive quieter by 3 db. The New Swift is also environment friendly as it has reduced its Co2 emission.

A polymer tank replaces the metallic one, curtailing weight by approximately 30 kg. Also aiding it is higher tensile strength steel which also upgrades the safety measures by increasing torsional rigidity and superior handling. The suspension is efficiently retuned offering better stability and driving comfort. With three variants available in both petrol and diesel models, the base model itself is offering enhanced au courant features upgrading the value offering.

Adhering to the feedback of users and reviews, the New Swift has evolved, fully loaded with state-of-the-art technology, ritzy interiors and high-end features. Besides promising higher efficiency, increased power and extended fuel economy, it artfully preserves its "swift" look with an added pizzazz. Yet, it suffers minor drawbacks in terms of a small rear window, shrunken boot space and pricing. The petrol variant is priced aggressively in the 4.22 lakh to 5.53 lakh bracket and the diesel variant is priced from 5.17 to 6.38 lakh. The petrol version is priced at Rs 13000 higher and the diesel version is priced Rs 18000 higher than the outgoing model.

The company has not tampered much with the retail price owing to overall slowdown and a wave of well-deserving competition in the form of Beat, U-VA and Figo. Also, strong competition is expected from Hyundai I20, priced in the bracket of 4.59 to 8.16 lakh, the recently-launched Toyota Liva priced between 3.99-5.99 lakh and an awaited, upgraded Jazz expected to be priced between 5.5 to 6 lakh. Yet, amidst a plethora of hatchbacks, Swift possesses an unprecedented history of success and with its premium value offerings, the New Swift indeed has the potential to rewrite history and carve another niche in the premium compact car segment.
